Owner Relinquishment & Unwanted Pets

UNWANTED AND OWNER RELINQUISHED PETS

There are many reasons a family can no longer care for a pet: a move, allergies, or a perceived behavioral problem. Whatever the reason, the Orange County Humane Society maybe pets best chances for a new permanent home for these relinquished pets. Unfortunately intake of pets depends on space availability. We can only take in what we can accommodate for. Availability can change weekly so it is good to check back often. Intake also depends on the adoptability of a pet, the younger the animals the easier to find a home. Sadly the older bigger ones stay the longest.

The shelter is open to receive animals from 9:00am to 5:00pm 7 days a week. Keep in mind though, bringing your pet does not guarantee we can take it in!!

When a pet is surrendered to the shelter, the owner must bring it in to us. We ask that the person surrendering a pet fill out a pet info form. This sheet helps us obtain background information for appropriate placement. The more information we receive about the pet, the better job we can do in its placement. It also helps when owner bring in pet’s medical history so that the new owner will have access to it.

Relinquishment Fees

When you can no longer care for your pet, and need to bring them to the shelter, we will ask for a fee simply to help defray the cost of caring for your pet during its time here. This fee by no means covers the full cost of care, but it does help us in providing safe, sanitary shelter, vet care, and a chance for a new life to 100’s of animals yearly.
Fees vary depending on the number of age of and type of animal you wish to surrender. Relinquishment fees are listed below.
